The name "Mitsubishi" refers to the three diamond logo. "Mitsubishi," Mitsubishi is a combination of words (= three) and hishi (= water chestnut). The Japanese have long used the word for a diamond shape. Yataro Iwasaki, the founder of the old Mitsubishi organization, chose the three diamonds symbol of their corporate brand.
Around 1870, Yataro Iwasaki, founder of the company, hired three steamers, and with them create a transport company. In the following years the company is constantly expanding fleet of over 30 units, and the Mitsubishi a solid foundation for the modern shipbuilding industry. Other presidents of the Iwasaki family has followed the example of his predecessors and restructured the organization of Mitsubishi, creating divisions in metal mining, coal mining, shipbuilding and engineering, banking, business and property.
Mitsubishi has developed a very large family business with over 70 companies. To coordinate the operation of his family and more companies, Mitsubishi Kyogikai ("Top Management Meeting") was established in 1937. In 1996, Mitsubishi Electric Europe BV was formed as a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and assumed all of Mitsubishi Electric's European sales and marketing. In this context, the German department was created to serve our German sales and marketing activities.
